One thing I hate about blogging is that initial post. I have a flood of things that I would like to write about, yet I feel almost needful of a segue...which one obviously lacks for a blogs initial post. Obligatory rambling then ensues and one wonders if the entire project should just be trashed.
And there you go, the opening of my new blog. For those of you following (quiet monsters, you are) my prior blog can, at least for now, be found at Tookshire.typepad.com and an even older, soon to be deleted, at Xanga.com/Tookshire. There were a couple of other half-starts out there, cleverly keeping Tookshire as the moniker, but I became too lazy to update those and therefore they aren't worth mentioning. While checking out a few other freebie blogging spots, I remembered signing up for a VOX account oh these many moons. While I never used it, I did find their splender of backgrounds and wallpaper thingees more than made up for my lack of CSS knowledge and catered to my desire to find something that was "me." None of the other freebies seemed to offer this attractive lure, so I bit. So, shop is officially open.
Another thing I hate about blogging is the wrap up to the initial post. I suppose I should say that I don't have a clearly defined theme for my writing. I homeschool three teens so that will pop up quite a bit. That and the transition of teenhood itself. Like most homeschooling mothers, I am a stay at home person rather than a part-time to full-time worker. So house-type things (do I hear you snoring already?) will be dropped here and there. My real uber passions however, are ancient history...that subject is a bit harder to make blog-reader friendly...and religion. In particular, I'm sorta what one would call a Messianic Gentile. Yet, there are a few trade mark beliefs that a Messianic would have that I do not...so I'm not sure if it disqualifies me altogether from using the term. I don't use the term unless someone is kindly trying hard to figure out what it is that I am; otherwise, I just use the term believer as I think it is more direct. With a love for ancient history and religion of the Messianic flavor, however, most of my meaty things will involve living as a believer in today's world...and tying them to the past. Plus I will likely throw in shouts about entertainment, media, politics, etc. Before I shut down my other blogs, I'd like to do a cut and paste from some of the articles. I'll try to give you a heads up or a mini-intro when I do that. Another thing I love to do is collect quotes. On my earlier blogs I would "pre-post" them for days/times I knew I wouldn't be available for live-posting. Haven't peeked around VOX enough to know if that's a possibility. Truly, I'm not sure what will be included in my blog.
One story you will follow me on is the one pertaining to my son, my youngest at 15. Shortly after his 13th birthday he received a massive firework injury to his left eye. (Under the supervision of a neighbor who did not have our permission to hand the boy fireworks....having two firemen in our families, DH and I never exposed our children to the things.) This Friday, May 4th, will be my son's sixth and not final surgery to save the integrity of his eye with hopes of gaining back some sight. So, if you've already popped in to see my new diggs, perhaps you can keep that date in your heart for prayer purposes. And that is as good a sign-off as I can imagine.
Peace!
